The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, was the guest of honour at a business lunch held in the Embassy of Ireland in Paris on September 3rd.  The event was attended by a number of players in the Franco-Irish business community as well as some companies who seek to develop their activity in France.

During the lunch, the Taoiseach highlighted the advantages of investing in Ireland.  Prior to the event, a series of meetings had been organised by the Embassy focusing on the Executive level of individual companies aiming to expand.

The Taoiseach spoke with President Hollande for more than an hour and then held a press conference, meeting with both French and Irish journalists.  The discussion covered a wide variety of questions including the possibility of increasing common bilateral business opportunities and initiatives with the aim of encouraging investment, growth and employment at a European level.  President Hollande also accepted the Taoiseach's invitation to come to Ireland next summer to continue these discussions on how to create other economic links between both countries, and also to commemorate the Irish participation at the Battle of the Somme.

That evening, the Taoiseach arrived in Lyon to address a group of key economic actors from the Rhöne-Alpes region on the topic of Ireland's economic expansion.  This event was followed by a Q&A session.

The highlight of September 4th was the signature of a contract worth more than €5 million with two Enterprise Ireland clients and their partners from the Clean-Tech, Software and Green Energy sectors.

WES, an Irish company and EcoMetis, a Swiss company thus officially sealed their alliance and signed the creation of WOODCO.  This partnership will allow WES enter the French market, after successful implantations in England, the USA and Canada to date.

On September 4th, the Irish company Tricel, European leader in purification solutions and the French group Rhöne-Alpes Assainissement signed a contract to the value of €1.5 million.

The Taoiseach went on to meet the Mayor of Lyon, Mr. Gerard Collomb, with whom he discussed the possibilities of reinforcing business links between Ireland and the Rhône-Alpes region.  In addition to this, Enterprise Ireland is scheduled to run a Business Development mission to Lyon on November 23rd and 24th and a Lyonnaise Business Development mission to Ireland is also being organised by the French Embassy before President Hollande's visit.
