Successful business relations with Irish and English partnerships

News - Intro image

Some 30 members of NetworkIrlande and the Franco-British Chamber of Commerce attended a breakfast meeting on Wednesday the 9th November to hear a presentation by Niamh Browne-Tixier, member of NetworkIrlande, and Laure Dykstra, member of the FBCC, co-authors of a book published by AFNOR, entitled "Communiquer, négocier et travailler efficacement avec des partenaires du Royaume-Uni et de l'Irlande".

After clarifying various definitions which are sometimes overused and misused, such as "Great Britain, United Kingdom, British Isles and Anglo Saxon", humorously emphasizing the non-existence of "Anglo Saxony" as a territory and the non-membership of Celtic Ireland of this community, Niamh and Laure discussed how to approach the various mentalities and cultures that make up what is known as the British Isles. The importance of negotiating directly with Ireland and not via Great Britain was emphasized.

Several questions relating to the Brexit and the particular situation of Ireland, the only country in Europe to possess a land border with the United Kingdom, were raised.

What will be the impact of this Brexit on the commercial relations between Ireland and England, the Republic of Ireland's major trading partner?  After much discussion, it was agreed that the debate remains open for the moment.  The topic could be broached again once the article 50 has been invoked by Great Britain.
