On the evening of Tuesday March 11, in the presence of the Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne T.D., the Embassy held its 2025 St. Patrick's Day reception in honour of the Franco-Irish business community. It was organised jointly with ourselves at NetworkIrlande and our colleagues from Team Ireland (Bord Bia - The Irish Food Board, Enterprise Ireland France, IDA Ireland, and Tourism Ireland) and sponsored by Stripe.
Minister Byrne and the Ambassador highlighted in their speeches the importance of the friendship and economic partnership between Ireland and France. The value of trade between us reached a record figure of over €40 billion in 2023. France is Ireland's largest investment partner in the EU, Irish agri-food exports to France are worth over €1 billion, and our tourism trade is thriving, with half a million French visitors to Ireland each year and a similar number of Irish tourists to France.
The reception was also an opportunity to reflect on the Irish-Breton friendship, in the presence of the Vice-Presidents of the Brittany Region, Mr. Daniel Cueff and Mr. Stephane Perrin Sarzier and also marked the 50th anniversary of the Galway-Lorient twinning.
A lot of fun was had with great music and a spectacular spread - many thanks to the Embassy team for doing such a stellar job.
